BOC supports innovative research

BOC supports innovative research

We support research into the clinical use of medical gases through the Linde Group GEMI Fund and The Inspire Award. The GEMI Fund has mainly supported mechanistic and translational research in various undefined areas, while The Inspire Award concentrates on clinical investigations in patients to clarify therapeutic benefits in our focus areas.

It is our ambition to become the preferred partner in the development of innovative therapies arising from any intellectual property where gases, gas technology or gas competence are needed. Through the Linde Group we co-operate with researchers in hospitals and universities in different parts of the world and support research programs in several clinical areas. This approach has uncovered a number of opportunities and ideas for new product concepts.

Innovative research – The GEMI Fund

GEMI stands for Gas Enabled Medical Innovations. The GEMI Fund was founded in 2002 by Linde Healthcare in co-operation with Harvard Medical international, Boston, MA, US and the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. The Fund awards grants for new and innovative research that addresses potential clinical use of gases relating to the treatment, prevention or diagnosis of diseases and other physical disorders. The grants amount to a total of one million dollars every other year, which makes the GEMI Fund a significant contributor to this area of research.

Innovative research – The Inspire Award

The Inspire Award was created by BOC Medical (now part of The Linde Group) in 2005 to encourage innovative clinical research into the use of medical gases in human healthcare. Applications are invited for research projects that add to our understanding of how medical gases can be used to treat a range of respiratory and other illnesses. Awards may be made up to twice yearly and the amount and frequency of the award will be dependant on the quality of proposals received.
